When a spirit of wanderlust arises, consider enjoying one of the many road trip destinations in the United States. There are numerous scenic and interesting routes from the west to the east coast and in between from which to choose. 

Monterey Peninsula’s 17-mile Drive-California
The private roadway was established off of Highway 1 and spans from Carmel to Pacific Grove. Driving along the path requires paying a nominal fee. But, should visitors decide to enjoy a meal at a local establishment or stay at a local hotel, the fee is deducted. There is no charge for anyone choosing to bike or walk the stretch of road. Lush forests, rugged coastlines overlooking the ocean in addition to majestic homes come into view along the way. If taking the journey from April through June, the overlook provides the chance to watch harbor seals and their pups. Have an evening picnic on Spanish Bay beach and watch the sunset.

Scenic Byway 12-Utah
The nearly 123-mile expanse of road is also commonly known as the All American Road. The journey gains its distinction secondary to the unique features encountered along the way. The adventure begins in Panguitch and concludes in Torrey. Bryce Canyon National Park exists at one end, and Capitol Reef National Park graces the other end of the journey. Travelers also pass through the Kodachrome Basin, the Escalante Petrified Forest, and the Anasazi State Park, which boasts ancient cave dwellings and a museum. There are plenty of locations to pull over and take pictures of the monumental and colorful sandstone formations, mountains, and breathtaking landscapes. 

North Shore Drive-Minnesota
Driving the scenic 145-mile route begins in Duluth and meanders northward to Ontario, Canada. But, 110 miles of the All-American Roadway is along Highway 61, which ventures through quaint communities, to historic sites, and through the scenic wilderness. Make a stop in Duluth to the harbor of Lake Superior. See the aerial lift bridge, the lighthouse, and tour the Maritime Museum. Knife River offers amazing fresh seafood in addition to a candy kitchen to the delight of chocolate lovers. Two Harbors is known for the cascading Gooseberry Falls, a brewery and diner. Silver Bay brings visitors to Tettegouche State Park for the chance to stretch their legs and go hiking.
